How and when do I apply for a magnet program?

The application process for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) magnet programs typically begins in the second week of October for the following school year. All students must submit an application to be considered for admission or placement on the waitlist. Applications can be completed online at choices.lausd.net.

If my child is currently in an elementary school magnet program, will they automatically be accepted into a middle school magnet program?

No, enrollment in an elementary school magnet program does not guarantee automatic placement in a middle school magnet program. All students must submit a new application through choices.lausd.net to be considered

What happens if my child is placed on a waitlist?

If  your child is placed on a waitlist, the magnet program will monitor available spots following the accept/decline deadline. If a student declines their placement, an opening may become available. Families on the waitlist will be contacted by the magnet office if a spot becomes available.
